Now in its second edition, this is undoubtedly the best single-volume medical atlas available today, the only better resource being Netter's classic eight-volume set, published in 13 physical volumes over 33 years starting in 1959 and originally called CIBA Collection of Medical Illustrations after the publisher. (The name was changed to Netter's Collection of Medical Illustrations by the new publisher, Novartis.) Once again, Netter's masterly artwork has been faithfully reproduced, though the first edition (LJ 12/89) has been updated to reflect current anatomical knowledge and to incorporate new cross-sectional images to assist in the recognition of current "scanned" images. Organized by anatomical regions, the illustrations are colorful, easily defined, and clearly labeled, and the book closes with a very easy-to-use 48-page index. Nice Book

If you are going to school for anything in the healthcare field, this is an invaluable resource to get a clear understanding of the anatomy of the human body. Great illustrations laid out in regions with cut away drawings of the structures.

A great investment.

I am a billing and coding student/CPC candidate and in the course of my study I noticed that other textbooks used Dr. Netter's illustrations. I decided to purchase the complete volume and I am pleased with my choice. My age aside, there is a lot to be said for having high quality reference books on your desk versus using the internet. I have the paperback version which is a trace larger than a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper; and it is nearly 1.25 inches thick. The pages lay open nicely and the paper is sturdy with a finish between satin and semi-gloss depending on your perspective. The book includes many radiographs, transverse/cross section illustrations, layered dissection illustrations, organ dissections (some microscopic) etc. A few subjects are presented in schematic form in addition to the traditional scale form (primarily nerves). As near as I can tell, it is complete in all respects. There are NO photographs except for the x-ray/radiograph images. For anyone not familiar with Dr. Netter's work, all the illustrations are hand drawn, so the scale may not always be precise for tiny details. This book is much better than videos or photographs of cadaver dissections. As is the case with many medical books, the genital details are explicit, so plan accordingly for storage/kids/easily offended adults etc.

Pretty drawings but a little overrated

The drawings are clear, and I'm glad that I studied it because this is the resource that I would want to use to show patients anatomical features in my practice. Additionally, the muscle tables were helpful. However, for actually learning the material, I found Grants atlas of anatomy to be much more helpful because it includes verbal descriptions, and I learn best if I have descriptions to accompany graphics. Netters has only pictures and no descriptions.
