This is not a "compassionate work"- it promotes mind control.

A slow and steady manipulation.
This author had a very strong desire to affirm and promote homosexuality.He formed an ideology in his head of how the world should work and assumed it was his destiny to impose his ideology on America in order to set everything right.Marshall Kirk was a manipulative operator a man filled with hatred who had very little sympathetic/empathetic understanding- he couldnt 'fully' comprehend why "straights" (as he terms them) reject deviations from the society norm.The author seems to be driven by emotion and revenge he advocates the use of strategically coordinated propaganda and he rationalizes the use of (unethical) mind control methods.He wanted to hurt his society as they had hurt him- give "straights" a taste of their own medicine and due to his narcissistic pathology he felt well within his rights to do so.This author of this book outlines the use of various subtle psychological coercion techniques that violate the basic right to free thought.This book was an extremely difficult read because the writings and the author had such a hostile energy.

A Marketing Plan

After the Ball appears to have been the seminal blueprint for the gay rights movement in the US. Kirk and Madsen lay out their strategy - which has worked quite well - for converting the culture to one that was primary antagonistic toward gays, at the time of their writing, to one that is now much more accepting. I say it worked well, since we are now talking about same-sex marriage with nearly 1/2 the population being on board.
The thing that disturbed me a bit, was that their strategies were based more on marketing concepts rather than arguments from logic. This seems to leave some potential for regression unless the logic portions can be strengthened over time.
