This is tough... how can I laud the book and yet chastise the publisher in just 1 review...

I think the title says it best; if you read other user reviews you will see that this book is easily one of the best books in the field. Clearly and succinctly written. I am really happy with the content.
However... the quality of the book itself is just another notch in the long history of publishers taking highest advantage of collegiate level texts and the students that purchase them.
I am used to the $100-$180 text. I like new books, and keep them in good condition, so I generally suck it up and pay the hefty price. Yes... I feed the publishing beast. But I typically get solid, high quality books and keep them that way for many years.
This was the first time that I was severely disappointed with what I ended up with. $140... and a shoddily-bound softcover book arrived on my doorstep. The binding glue is one of the cheaper ones I have run into. A little too much pressure on the binding and it cracks open, loosely scattering the few pages who final, tenuous grasp on the binding glue was just not strong enough. By itself, no section of the book will rest open for easy at-a-glance reference.
Just a few sentences, but this sums up my conundrum. Kudos and kudos again to Dr. Gonzalez for taking the time to put together such an excellent text.Shame on the publishers for doing what they do best: provide exclusive content from a single source for a premium, and continuously lessening the quality of the product by packaging it so terribly. I'd advise finding the book through another source but... this is the nature of publishing.

It is a book that explains Microwave Transistor Amplifiers, while slowly falling apart.

It conveys information in a short time. The paperback is literally falling apart, and this happened with several students in my class. As a manufacturer of books, I would think the company would design for this not to happen, but the block of glue does a clumsy job of keeping things together when a student is trying to read what in the world is going on with these insane circles, charts, transmission lines and other things the author does a good job of explaining.
However, the convention used for the Smith charts in the the first couple chapters is hard to follow, in my opinion. Some examples have a tendency to skip steps leaving the newbie reader to madly scramble for the equations until he finds the right one that works.

Excellent book in microwave amplifier design

This book covered extensive techniques in amplifier design, mostly for small signal amplifiers (LNA), but less for PA. The content in this book follows a systematic way, which is good to the people who want to start from 'zero'. Examples are rich in 2nd ed., and explanations are clear. I found this book quite useful for learning basic techniques in amplifier design. As stated in the book, the techniques are applicable to not only microwave frequency, but other frequency ranges as long as S-parameters are available. There are 'huge' amount of smith charts involved in this book, so it's good for people who prefer graphical design approaches, which basically rely on the use of smith chart. For those who are interested in more specific kind of design, like broadband LNA design, this book may not be the first choice.
The only annoying thing about the book is the binding. I paid the price for a hardcover only to get a paperback. Besides, the binding quality is quite poor (loose page after regular use, printed on wrong paper grain direction,...), and I sent my copy to have it rebound eventually.
